The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO, University of Ottawa is recruiting a 0.5 – 1.0 FTE within the Division of Child Youth and Protection. Individuals interested in either part time or full time work in this area are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will be Royal College certified or equivalent in Pediatrics, with additional training or experience in child maltreatment; in addition; they should also have a demonstrated interest in both research and education. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa at an academic rank commensurate with experience. While English is the language of the health record, functionality in French is an asset.

The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together, we provide outstanding patient care, leading research, and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns, children and youth of the Ottawa area, as well as those from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions, which includes Child Youth and Protection.

The Division of Child and Youth Protection currently consists of two full-time physicians and one part-time physician, a nurse and a social worker. The successful candidate will join this dynamic multidisciplinary team to provide child maltreatment consultations to CHEO and to all of the child protection agencies, physicians and hospitals in the Ottawa region. A strong interest in teaching is a must, as the Division supports rotations for undergraduate, postgraduate and allied health learners. Interest in expanding the research portfolio of the division is an asset. Interested applicants should be established clinicians in the area of child maltreatment or have successfully completed additional focused training in Child Maltreatment Pediatrics. A diploma in, or eligibility to apply for a diploma, in Child Maltreatment Pediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is an asset.

CHEO is a tertiary institution with onsite availability of advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities and specialized Pediatric Radiologists, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Pediatric ICU and all pediatric and mental health specialties needed to support the work of the physicians in the division of Child and Youth Protection. The pediatricians in the division work closely with the Emergency Department Sexual Assault Care Program. CYP has established formal relationships with multiple regional child welfare agencies.
